A'dan Z'ye Mısır ve Nil gezisinden notlarımı paylaşmayı sürdürüyorum...
Mezar: Eski Mısırlılar için mezar çok önemliydi. Ne tapınaklarda ne heykellerde ne de saray kalıntılarında, mezarlarda olduğu kadar gündelik yaşamdan kesitler veren zengin bir malzeme elde edilmemiştir. Bunun da en büyük nedeni, eski Mısırlıların ölümden sonraki yaşama büyük önem vermeleridir. Hani bizim kültürümüzde bir deyim vardır: Çalışıp, didinip bütün kazancını mala, mülke yatıranlar için "Ne yapacaksın bu kadar birikimi mezara mı götüreceksin?" derler ya. Eski Mısırlılar gerçekten her şeyi mezara götürmek için yaşamışlar. Bu dünya için basit barınaklar, öteki dünya için güçleri ölçüsünde saraylar veya saray yavruları yaptırmışlar.
Yaşarken hep ölümden sonrasını düşünmüşler, öteki alemdeki yaşam için gerekli hazırlıkları yapmışlar. Firavunlar, onların etrafını çevreleyen aristokratlar, mezarlarını yaşarken yaptırmışlar; öldüklerinde de mumyalanarak yerleştirildikleri mezarlara, mobilyadan giysiye, yiyecek ve içeceklerden takılara, avlandıkları silahlardan çocukların sahiplendiği oyuncaklara kadar gündelik hayatta gerek duyulan malzemelerle gömülmüşlerdir.  Bunlarla da kalmayıp mezar duvarlarına işlenen "Ölüler Kitabı" metinlerinin yanı sıra yaşamlarında yaptıkları da tek tek yazılmıştır.
Eski Mısırlılar için ölüm, öteki alemde başlayacak olan yepyeni bir hayat biçimi olarak algılanmıştır. Ancak, buna ulaşabilmek için, bedenin çürüyüp kumlara karışıp yok olmadan, birkaç kilometre uzunluğundaki bandajlarla, kozayı andırır bir şekilde mumyalanıp, öteki alemde gereksinim duyacağı besin maddeleri ve bazı eşyaların mezara yerleştirilmesi; bir ölüm geleneği olarak 3 bin yıla yakın bir zaman devam ettirilmiştir. Hala arkeolojik kazılarda bu tür mezarlara rastlanmaktadır. Mezar kültürü birçok iş kolunu doğurmuştur. Mezar kazıcılığı, mezar süslemeciliği, mezar eşyaları üretimi yapan ustalar ve mumyalama sanatı bunlardan en önemlileridir. Günümüzde de Mısır'da mezara önem verilmektedir. Herkes ekonomik gücüne göre mezarlar yapmakta ya da yaptırılmasını vasiyet etmektedir.
Mezarlık Mahallesi: Kahire Havaalanı'ndan Eski Kahire bölgesine giderken gördüğümüz tarihi mezarlık sadece ölülerin değil yaklaşık 4 milyon insanın yaşadığı bir mahalle olmuş. Ölülerle birlikte yaşayan 4 milyon yoksul üst üste, sağlıklı ve insanca yaşam konforundan uzakta adeta Kahire içinde bir şehir kurmuşlar. Peki, bu nasıl olmuş? Mısır'ın İkinci Cumhurbaşkanı Cemal Abdülnasır döneminde (1956-1970 arası), kırsal kesimden gelenler için bu mezarlıkta oturma izni verilmiş. İsrail savaşlarının ardından Mısır'ın iskan politikasındaki belirsizlikler, Mezarlık Mahallesi'ne göçü hızlandırmış.
Mahallede Mısır kırsalından ve Filistin'den göçmüş yoksullar ve göçmenler yaşıyor. Tarihi eser niteliğindeki mezar evler tek kat ve iki odadan oluşuyor. Mezarlar çoğu kez evin bahçesinde, bazen de bir odasında bulunuyor. Cemal Abdülnasır'ın ardından gelen hükümetler döneminde mezar evlere su, elektrik ve kanalizasyon hizmetleri de götürülmüş Bu nedenle Mezar Evleri'nin çevresini gecekondu apartmanlar sarmış. Böylece bu şekilde yaşayan nüfus 10 milyona yaklaşmış. Bu mahalleden otobüsle iki kez geçtik. İçinde sanat eseri olarak nitelenen güzel mezarlar olduğu gibi, sıradan mezarlar da gözlenebiliyor.
Sanat eseri mezarlar arasında yoksul bir yaşam. Mısır, geçmişte buna benzer bir ironi daha yaşamıştı. Açlık çeken bir halk ve Firavun mezarlarında yatan altınlar, gümüşler... Memluklular'ın görkemli birer sanat eseri olarak bıraktıkları türbe ve ev tipi bahçeli mezarlar sadece Mısır'da bulunuyor. Bazı sanat tarihçileri ise görkemli mezar yapma geleneğinin firavunlar döneminden kaldığını, bu nedenle hem Müslüman hem de Hristiyanlar'ın aynı geleneği Mısır'da devam ettirdiğini savunuyor. Eski Kahire'de Hristiyanlar'a ait de bir mezar kent bulunuyor. Ancak burada insanlar yaşamıyor.
Mezar Soygunculuğu: Eski Mısır'da firavun mezarı kutsaldı ve dokunulamazdı. Bu ideal Piramitlerin hepsinin soyulması ile sona erdi. Yönetim kaya mezarlarına defin yöntemine geçti. Ancak Tutankamon'un mezarı dışında hepsi soyuldu. Mezarlar niçin soyuluyordu? Mezar işçileri ücretlerini tam olarak alamıyordu. Kendileri ve aileleri açtı. Grev bile yapmışlar ama istedikleri ücretleri alamamışlardı. Böylece mezarları yapan işçiler geceleri ve boş kaldıkları zamanlarda mezarları soymaya başladılar. Ekip halinde çalışıp güvenlik görevlilerini etkisizleştirerek kendi yaptıkları mezarları bir süre sonra soymaya başladılar. Bazıları bu işte öyle uzmanlaştılar ki "mezar soygunculuğu" bir meslek haline geldi.
Eski Mısır'ın M.Ö. 1069-1030 yılları arasındaki gerileme döneminde ülke ikiye ayrıldı. Hem siyasi hem de ekonomik gerileme ve çöküş başladı. Hazine boştu. Devlet yönetimi atalarının mezarlarını "yenileme ve onarma" adı altında boşalttılar. Ancak bu resmi hırsızlıklar bile çöküşü önleyemedi.
Mumyalama: Eski Mısırlıların mumyalama (tahnit) adı verilen uygulamaları MÖ. 15. Yüzyıl'a dayanır. Mısır'da ölülerin, ölümden sonra tekrar dirilip kendi bedenlerine kavuşacaklarına olan inancı ile yapılmıştır. Önceleri sadece Firavunlara uygulanan mumyalama işlemi daha sonra soylu ve halktan kişilere de yapılmaya başlanmıştır. Bundan dolayı ölü bedeni öbür dünyaya hazırlayıp, diğer dünyada kişinin bedenine hemen kavuşabilmesi için bir nevi ölen kişiye yardım etmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Firavunların mumyalarında yüzlere altın ve değerli taşlarla süslenmiş maskeler takılmıştır. Ayrıca eğer kişi dünyada sakatsa, eksik olan bacak ya da kol tahtadan yapılırmış böylelikle kişinin diğer dünyada bedenini özgürce kullanabileceği düşünülürmüş.
Mumyalama işi yalnızca beceri ve bilgi gerektiren bir iş değil, ayrıntılı ayinleri olan işti. Herkes yapamazdı. Mumyalamayı özel tapınak memurları yapıyordu. Uygulamanın inceliğine göre fiyat tarifesi değişiyordu. İç organlar çıkarılıyor ve ayrı kaplara konuyordu. Kalp çıkarılıyor ve yerine taştan yapılmış bir b.k böceği (skarabe) konuyordu. Beden çeşitli bitki ve yağlardan yapılmış ilaçlarla kaplanıyor ve metrelerce uzunlukta keten bezlere sarılıyordu. Beden üzerine çeşitli muska ve dua levhaları yerleştiriliyor ve çift tabutla kapatılıyordu.
Mumyalama tekniği beraberinde birçok yan işlerin ve mesleklerin doğup gelişmesine neden oldu. Özellikle tıp ve ilaç bilimi ile mumyalama geleneği karşılıklı birbirlerini geliştirdiler. Bu gün hala Mısır'da yapılan kazılarda mumyalanmış cesetler çıkarılmaktadır. Ancak Firavunlardan sadece Tutankamon'un mumyası Mısır'da Krallar Vadisi'ndeki mezarında sergilenmektedir. Dünyanın birçok önemli müzesinde ve özel koleksiyonlarda Eski Mısır dönemine ait mumyalar bulunmaktadır.
